Rail Union, UTATU, has applauded government’s decision to award Transnet Rail Engineering (TRE) the contract to build 43 Class 43-100 diesel electric locomotives.

Reacting to the latest serious disruption to South Africa’s rail services caused by cable theft – the crippling of the Daveyton line on the East Rand - the United Transport and Allied Trade Union (UTATU),  has called on the government to take immediate, decisive action to put an end to cable theft – or to be seen as the cable thieves’ ally.
