We take this opportunity to thank our members for their support during the Strike. It is your support and continual pressure that has brought about a settlement agreement. It is unfortunate that we have not been able to increase the 11% offered by Management. We must understand that this is a settlement agreement that has derived from fierce negotiations throughout the night. The fundamental differences from the attached agreement compared to the original 11% offer are as follows: 1. A special pay run will be run for the back pay of the increase by the latest 7 June 2010 (See Clause 1.5). 2. That a new minimum pensionable wage of fifty thousand rand (50 000) per year is implemented after the 11% increase (See Clause 3.2.1) 3. A once off ex-gratia payment of one thousand rand (1000) per employee will be paid on or before 7 June 2010 (See Clause 13.1) 4. Contract workers (See Clause 12) in the previous agreement only 850 contract workers would have been appointed, however in the settlement agreement 1000 contract workers in Transnet Capital Projects will be appointed as permanent staff by 31 October 2010. The agreement has not been signed to date and is due for signature on Thursday, 20 May 2010 at 16h00, pending a final mandate from members. Attached please find a mandate form for completion and must be returned to head office by not later than 15h00, Thursday 20 May 2010. (Mandate also obtainable at Head Office) We also take this opportunity to thank every member for their support during these very difficult negotiations. GENERAL SECRETARY
